Hello Flower Friends!

Here is the update to what we are wintering sowing here at Cottage Hill Farms this 2023 season.

1.) Bachelor Buttons

We are planting three varieties of bachelor buttons also known as cornflowers this year! We are planting:

-Blue Boy  (Linked) which is a true shade of electric blue

-Classic Artistic Mix which has a spectrum of sky blue to royal blue, deep burgundy to reds, rose, pinks, and whites

-Classic Romantic Mix which is a soft mix of blushes, pinks, ivory, and magenta with bicolors

2.) Sweet Peas

This season we are using the Old Spice Mix which is a very fragrant herlioom blend created from varieties from 1901-1907 We are very thankful to have these!

3.) Snapdragons

We are planning 5 successions of snapdragons this upcoming season, we are growing Potomac Orange which has bright coral and orange blooms.

4.) Strawflower

We are growing the Tall Double Mix which is a stunning mix of red, pink, salmon, lemon, white, lilac, and more. These are essential in our dried-everlasting flower sales.

5.) Statice

Also known as sea lavender, we are growing Pacific Mix which is jewel tones of purple, white, yellow, rose tones. We are also growing Cotton Candy Statice which comes in hues of lavender, soft rose, and pink tones.

6.) Forget-Me-Nots

These stunning petite blue flowers are an excellent addition to our bouquets and are one of the only flowers that is naturally blue!

Below is the short list of needed materials for winter sowing for a full instruction on how and why we winter sow, check out our post here.

- Containers we used recycled water, milk, and tea containers. Alternatively I have seen others have success with this Nursery Pot Set.

- Soil Mix we used our seeding starting mix that we mix ourselves, more on that here.

*You can also use any potting mix you prefer!*

- Duct Tape to close the containers

- Sharp scissors to safely cut the containers

- Hot Glue Gun to burn drainage holes! An alternative would to be drilling holes, this set is what we prefer.

*We may receive a small commission if you click our affilate links and make a purchase.
